Soap mixed with Borax and Laundry Baking Soda

Add finely grated bar soap to the boiling water and stir until the soap is melted.

Pour the soap water into a large clean pail and add the Borax and Washing Soda and stir until soap is melted.

Add 2 Gallons of water, stir until well mixed.

Cover pail and allow to set 24 hours.  The detergent will gel and require stirring before each use.

Use 1/2 cup per large load

Thats Less than 4 cents per load!!

I like to add some Essential Oil to the detergent after I’ve added the 2 gallons to it;  My favorite is Lavender and a little Tea Tree Oil.

All natural and no chemicals in this!!

  1. If we used just 1 gallon of water, could we cut the initial recipe in half? I like the idea of no chemicals! Would this be ok to use in a high efficiency washing machine?
