Still Working It

Not giving up or giving in!  I got this!

As you can see I’m still working out and working on my health and It has been a long road now!  It has been almost a year since I started and I have seen a lot of changes and I’m proud to say all for the Best!  Looking back to a year ago I thought or Didn’t think much about making these Life Changes or what I could or should do; I just put it to the back of my mind ignoring it hoping it would go away!  Then I would pass a mirror and see myself and it hit like a ton of bricks man!!  Why, What, How, How was I going to change things, I know I must but crap it’s so hard and I don’t know where to start.

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A 150 POUND PERSON AND A 250 POUND PERSON

See  how the fat in the body of the 250 pound  person is smothering the organs, limbs, knees, heart, even the neck and spine !  No wonder I couldn’t bend!

This is a wake up call for sure!!  

Tears whelled up along with shame, guilt, discuss, you name it!   BUT I KNEW I had to do something!   I was on blood pressure medication, short of breath with exertion, couldn’t bend over and tie my shoes with out getting out of breath, couldn’t cross my legs for YEARS!!  Belly Flaps, (disgusting but true) and spent years shopping in the Big Girl departments always feeling ashamed to be there and did not like going out in public in the first dang place!   I know this all my seem hard to understand unless you have experienced yourself  but it is real!!!!    I needed help and support!!!  Thats when I joined a weight loss group and was given the guidance to eat right, move and be accountable for what and when food went into my mouth!!!  Was it easy?  Heck No!!  Did it work?  Yes If I worked it!!   It all boils down to I LOVE FOOD!!!!  But I had to find a way I could eat to live NOT Live to eat!!!    Don’t get me wrong here folks I’m not preaching here;  I’m hear to share my story and hope and pray it will help someone else!  I’m not perfect by no means!  I have slip ups all the time man!!  I may eat too much bread one day or maybe not watch my portion control. ( that’s a big one for me). again I love food!   Or maybe it’s a holiday, birthday, funeral, wedding, OR maybe its just a dang day you feel like eating!!

I know I have to workout almost everyday and watch what I eat plus I can eat anything I want as long as I do it wisely and not over indulge myself!  I can’t tell you how many Diets I have been on or off and all the tricks and trades you hear about these days, but I will tell you lay off the sugar and drink lots of water!!!  And exercise too!  You have to move or do something an by moving I don’t mean  move to the refrigerator and back to sit down!!  You, Me. Have get off our butts and move along with  some kind of work out!  I will tell you once you start you will begin to see in increase in energy and the desire to do more!   Just don’t over do it when you first start;  work up to it slowly and gain strength and momentum, Your body will thank you!

I Love going to the gym now and hate to miss a day!  I love the weight machines, and treadmill the most  LOL (thats all they have there basically) But it works for me!  I have weeks I lose a couple pounds and then I have a plateau and again maybe a gain!  Hey I’m human and it happens I face it and start a new day and Not give up!!  I can’t!   I have come too far and have had too many good rewards to quit now!   What rewards you might ask?  Well all kinds of them,  It’s not just the scale!  Think about it!. Rewards come in so many ways;

  • weight loss
  • smaller sizes
  • cross your legs
  • more stamina
  • able to work out or work out more
  • able to say NO THANK YOU
  • smaller ring sizes
  • less appitite
  • compliments
  • confidence
  • more social
  • big one!  Off medications
  • more energy
  • run
  • workout
  • gardening

So see theirs so many rewards other than the scale, and I’m sure you will think of more to add to the list.

Well I hope this has not depressed you but has give you some momentum to carry on in your Health Journey!!  I know it has me and It will continue the rest of my life!

Doggie Treats

Homemade Treats for your Fur Babies

You may ask why make them and go to all the trouble for your dog?  Well why not!

For starters when you make them yourself It’s all homemade with out all the added chemicals and additives and who knows what else is in the store bought ones!

So let’s do this for our four-legged critters we love!

Here’s what you will need to get started:

  • 1 Cup of whole wheat flour (preferably a all Natural flour)
  • 1/2 Cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 Banana mashed
  • 1/4 Cup of beef or chicken stock
  • 1/2  Cup  of Frozen Peas (slightly thawed)

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix the above ingredients in a large mixing bowl by hand;  It will be thick and sticky.   Then dump onto floured surface and form into a ball then sprinkle a little extra flour on top of dough and roll out till about 1/4 – 1/2 inch thick and cut out with a doggie cookie cutter.  ( They are  so dang cute) or whatever shape you want .

Place on cookie sheet sprayed with a release like PAM or Vegetable Spray .

If you know your pet does not like bananas you could use apple sauce instead, Also I added peas but you could grind up carrots also.  My dogs happen to love fruit and veggies so this is how I make mine.  So enjoy and have fun and  they will love you for it!!

Bake for 15-18 min until lightly golden brown and store in an air tight container.

All Done and ready for those Fur Babies!

SCENT TARTS
NATURAL SCENTED WAX

Ingredients:

1-/2 c + 2 Tabl  Coconut Oil

1 oz (by weight) beeswax

essential oils of choice

Instructions:

Bring an inch or two of water to a simmer over medium heat in a small sauce pan.  Cover the opening of the saucepan with a glass bowl to create a double broiler.

Put the coconut oil and beeswax in the glass bowl. Allow to heat, stirring occasionally until completely melted.

Remove from heat and throughly stir in essential oils.

Pour into mold and allow to cool until hardened( pop into refrigerator to expedite this).

To use , Place one in the proper bowl of a wax warmer. Use the warmer as directed.

Yeilds around 12 tarts when done in a mini muffin pan.

BLUE BERRY MUFFINS

Berry Muffins

 

 

1/3/4 c Flour  ( here is where i changes it a bit; ( I used 1 cup organic coconut flour and 3/4 c of half wheat and half white).  

1 c. sugar. ( I use Trivia) sweetener as an option

2 1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1 c. milk

1/4 c Butter melted;  (I use part coconut oil)

1 . egg beaten

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup of Berries ( blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, etc.)

Grease muffin pan. Preheat oven to 375.

Stir together in large bowl the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.

In another bowl stir together milk, butter, egg, and vanilla.

Add to the dry ingredients and stir until blended.  Batter will be lumpy. Fold in your choice of berries.  Fill muffin tins 3/4 full,  sprinkle with a little sugar or not and bake for 20 Min or until done.

Thats it, easy fun and good for you!!

HAVING BEEN OVER WEIGHT MOST ALL MY ADULT LIFE!!  4 C-SECTIONS ( OLD FASHION WAY) THEN BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, RAISING A FAMILY OF 6 BEING A STAY AT HOME MOM, WELL YOU KNOW WE EAT ALOT OF CARBS!!!  ITS CHEAP RIGHT? RIGHT….  BUT NOT IN THE LONG RUN .   I HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR IT SINCE THE LAST CHILD AND STILL PAYING FOR IT!!  TO LOSE IT THAT IS!! LOL. THIS IS NOT HEALTHY LIVING!!

 LOSE, GAIN, LOSE KEEP IT OFF A YEAR MAYBE IF I WAS LUCKY!! AND THUS THE CYCLE BEGAN!!!  

AND STOPING AND STARTING  OF WW’S TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT!!   TOPS, ATKINS, PALEO

THINGS CAN CHANGE!

WELL SOMETHING CHANGED IN ME MARCH 2018  NOT SURE BUT I DECIDED TO CHANGE MY LIFE STYLE AND START HEALTHY LIVING AND  DID A HIGH PROTEIN DIET FOR 3 MONTHS AND BEGAN LOSING, BUT ALSO WAS TIRING OF THE SAME OLD FOOD, THEN WITH SOME FAMILY PROMPTING I WENT BACK I SAY BACK!! TO WW AND JOINED WITH A DETERMINED ATTIDUDE TO FINALLY ONCE AND FOR ALL TO GET RID OF THIS FAT THAT WAS KILLING ME, MAKING ME HIDE IN MY HOUSE, NOT WANTING TO SOCIALIZE, SHOP, BE SEEN AND HATED MYSELF AND THE BAGGY CLOTHS THAT NOT TO MENTION WERE NONE TO STYLISH!!

LOSING WEIGHT!  DID YOU HEAR ME MAN!!   WELL I LOOKED INTO A WELLNESS COMPANY AND BEGAN USING THEIR NATURAL MINERALS AND VITAMINS AND DRINK TO CURB APPETITE  AND MAINTAIN A HEALTHY BLOOD SUGAR, EVEN THOUGH I DIDN’T HAVE DIABETE

NEW NUMBER AND SIZES!

THIS IS NOVEMBER 2018 AND TO THIS DAY I HAVE LOST 51 POUNDS! AND 4-5 SIZES!!

 FEELING  LIKE A DIFFERENT WOMAN WITH CONFIDENCE, STRENGTH, NOT SCARED OR TO EMBARRASSED BE IN PUBLIC AND… NEW CLOTHS THAT ARE IN STYLE MODESTLY!

AND THE  MOST RECENT NOV 2018. AND I STILL HAVE 35 LBS TO GO!!!   ITS BEEN THE TOUGHEST!!  BUT I GOT THIS!!!   WE GOT THIS!!!♥

Healthy TidBits

Have you ever been shopping for Healthy Food to find Its so expensive to eat healthy!!??  DID ANYONE TELL US HEALTHY LIVING IS EXPENSIVE!   Happens all the time and it shouldn’t be that way so I decided to try and make alot of my snacks and meals using healthy ingredients and tweaking some abit!  Remember we need all the food basics and the Good Carbs with fiber, easy on the oils and I use Olive Oil and real Butter sparingly cuz I love it so!!

Going  to a big grocery store that carries a lot of variety and seems to have more healthy choices is a great idea!

  Myself I tend to stay away from breads unless their high in fiber and low in gluten.  I also Love Love the Flat-out oblong tortilla like wraps that I can use for a sandwich, a wrap, tacos, breakfast wrap and they don’t have alot of points or bad in ingredients in them and come in a variety of flavors!!!  Also those Petridrige Farm multigrain bun type sandwich thins are good to for sandwich making, toast etc. They are  in the bread section at stores!

 Oh and don’t forget the Flat Out Artisan Pizza Crust!  Their a life saver when hubby wants Pizza!!  And only 5 points for whole thing!  Can’t beat that.


Well the Holidays are over and I survived!  BUT.. I’m sure I gained a couple pounds;   Tried to be  good with the main meal, but the cookies!  well that’s another story!  must of had at least 6-7 within a week period!  SO I’m owning up and facing the scale this week!

Hey we can’t quit now just buck up and start a new day!!!  

We got this! 

Back to the gym tomorrow!   I missed Friday and Monday!!  Thank goodness I have my Gizzel  sp

Thats one thing I cannot quit is my workouts; AND NEITHER CAN YOU! If WE’RE  NOT  doing them I fear WE won’t keep the inches off that WE WANT TO  LOSE AND and KEEP LOSING

Myself down  5 Sizes man!!!   Never felt so good and had fun wearing different cloths!   But mainly I feel good about me and like me!! haven’t  felt that in many many years!

Hello All!!

Well I faced the scale today at my workshop today and I gained a half pound during the Holidays and I will own it!!

How did you all do over the Holidays??

Not going to beat myself up over it and start a new day! I pumped up my workout routine🏋️‍♀️ added more water to my diet and prayed for more strength 🙏😉.

These days will happen and just don’t give up! Hey we’re only Human right?? Right!!

Are you tired of the back aches, sore knees, or have physical limitations, But love to garden and grow your own produce; I know I’m !  Well here’s a suggestion for you and a few tips to help you out and give you something to think about this coming gardening season!

I approached this topic as the plan for my own garden this year due to poor quality of and lack of soil here on the river.  Our soil is mostly sand and very dry and hot no matter how much watering  it seems was never enough and a lot of  our plants either would not produce in quality or quantity !  So the plans soon is to make our own garden boxes and bring in new soil along with the added compost and such.

So the fastest way to get good deep fertile soil is to make the Raised Beds!  They can yield up to four times more than the same amount of space as in planted rows and  save you money and time!  I’m all for that!  Not to mention less back, knee and stress on the body!

The plants also grow closer together and crowd out the weeds therefore you spend less time and effort weeding plus it makes watering and harvesting efficient and easier.

Did you know that planting in a triangle will yield more?  I didn’t, So we need to pay attention how we arrange the plants AND by doing this you can fit 10-14% more plants in each bed!!  I’m for that!  Just don’t plant them too close to each other.

Weight yield is more important than the number of plants per square foot.  Sometimes it’s hard to remember or think ahead what it will grow into!

Small garden?  No problem, Grow up! go vertical hence Tomatoes, Pole Beans, Melons, can all be supported by fences, cages, or stakes, plus it saves time by going up it provides more air to circulate which means less Fungal Diseases!

Some great ideas for growing vertical are becoming more popular especially small yards, apartments and also for just the great looks!  You can hang a shoe organizer up from a rod and attach heavy hooks through top holes of shoe garment to hang on the rod and fill each pocket up to an inch with compost and plant  herbs, lettuce, flowers and such, the water will seep through the canvas material.  Also you can use pallet boards leaning up against the house or garage and pack with dirt to plant herbs .  I have see large plumbing tubes with drilled holes in them and attached together in shapes where plants are grown in the large holes drilled into them.  Check out Pinterest.com for some great resources and DIY ideas on vertical gardening.

Grow Vining crops along the sides of your beds, You could even place buckets or cement blocks along the sides of your boxes AND have extra plants!  I think I’m going with the cement blocks, and add some marigolds in a few boxes also!   Just use what you have or can find.

Another thing to think about before you plant in your cute boxes is to make sure you have compatible plants such as the “Three Sisters” Corn, beans, and squash.  The corn stocks support the beans and the squash grows on the ground shading out the weeds!  More compatibles include Tomatoes, basil and onions.

Use your transplants that already are a month or so old when you plant them and they will mature faster, plus the pride you have from seeding them yourself!

Remember no pressure treated wood is allowed to grow “Organic Food”  If you want to meet these high standards choose a different wood material.  The EPA recommends use naturally Rot-Resistant woods like Red Cedar, Black Locust or Red Wood.  I don’t know about you, but I didn’t know this or thought about it!

Raised Beds can also be used on a cement patio if you don’t have the yard space or want it closer to your house; keep in mind your plants need sun  at least 6 hours of sunlight a day to thrive,  Also Remember to block up one end of your box a little to allow for drainage if you chose this option.

You may ask ok what kind of soil do I use?  The best is Homemade soil blend of 50% Topsoil made of healthy loom, 50% compost which can be manure, animal manure or fish compost.

The best Premium soil is :

1/3. Peat Moss

1/3. Vermiculite

1/3. compost blend

I really like the idea of mulching the paths between the boxes it gives it a finished look and will keep the soil cooler, plus keep the weeds down! As you can see my Old Garden lacks any structure!   Lay a landscape cloth on your path and cover with 2-3 inches of mulch or sawdust, Also when laying the fabric down allow it come up 1′ against the bottom board of box and staple it in place.  The much will cover it.

 

One of the most important things to know is your plant zone which will tell you when you can plant according to each state.  Here is a USA Zone Map to help you decide.

Now that you know when to start planting, Think ahead and start your own seedlings!

If you really want to start your own plants from seeds I think thats great!  And what better satisfaction than doing it all your self .  Here are some  Tid-Bits  from the ( Good Ol Farmers Almanac )  I read and  you might enjoy!

Try using some things you may have around the house instead of purchasing seedling trays such as, Toilet Paper roll,  Cut four slits in one end and fold in edge and fill with compost and your seeds plus you can plant the container and all!  It’s Biodegradable.

Ice Cream cones are also great to start seeds in as well as 1/2 of an egg shell and what about empty egg cartons the paper ones.

Do you live in the country or farm and bothered by deer eating in your garden?  You should  try this DIY Deer Repellent.  Mix 3 Tab hot sauce, 3 Tab minced garlic and 3 raw eggs, blend all together in blender and add to 1 gal of water and pour into spray bottle to spray your plants with and respray after a rain.  Insects are always a pest for gardeners and here is a few natural ideas without the chemicals!  Try planting Basil near your windows or doorways to repel flies and mosquitos, Plant some Dill near your tomatoes  to prevent tomato hook worms .( Oh speaking of that , Did you know a tomato hornworm (also known as a tobacco hornworm) is like a humming bird !  it grows into a type of humming bird moth!!  yup you heard me  they are brownish 2-2.5 inches with no beak just a long roll out tongue and sucks nectar from flowers just like a real hummingbird!! ) Go figure. That’s Sci-Fi for ya!   THAT I read in the Farmers Almanac!!

And what about those pesky weeds!  Try your own homemade weed killer, Mix 5 Tab of dish washing soap per 1 quart of water and add to a spray bottle to spray the plants with, Oh an it works great on Aphids too!  I use it every year!

Hopefully your plants are in the garden now or soon to be and you have all your garden tools, aprons, buckets or baskets to make things go smoothly and water nearby for your growing season!  Stay tuned and in a few months it will be time to talk about how we preserve all your garden harvest.

Cold Infused Herbal Oils

Infused Oils are simply infusing the dried flowers in oil and then left to soak for several weeks , then the oils is used again with the fresh herb extract. (cold infusion).  The oils can be used for massage oils or a basis for creams, ointments and soaps

I started my infusions by packing the flowers in a sterile pint jar then covered all the herb with organic olive oil making sure all the flowers were covered with an inch of oil on top.

I left it to sit for a week and then because I’m impatient decided to go ahead and do the Quick method which I’ll explain.   I put the jars of herbs into a slow cooker with a towel on the bottom to protect the jars and then filled the cooker with water to the half-way point of the jars with lids on tightly and placed the lid on the cooker and set at LOW temperature setting on 2-4 hours.  Then removed the jars and let cool then strained into new sterile jars through a tea towel or cheese cloth and replaced with clean lids and your DONE!   Remember to store in a cool dark place like a cupboard not close to heat!

Calendula is an antiseptic and anti fungal and can be used for cuts, scrapes, dry skin, inflammations and minor injuries.   This made a mildly scented fragrance.

Makes a great cream for this purpose.

 Jasmine  is a fragrant floral herb with anticatarrhal, antidepressant, and antispasmodic properties.  Other possible uses with coughs, eczema, menstrual pain and muscle spasms.    The fragrance was weaker than I thought it would be, making me wonder if the herb was as fresh as it should have been; So heads up and double-check if you’re ordering your herbs.   Choose a reputable company for  freshness and quality.

It is good for dry, greasy, irritated and sensitive skin.  I can’t wait to add to my homemade soaps!

Good Healthy Veggie Salad

HEALTHY LIVING AT LEAST TRYING

Oh what to have for supper?

Well of course a salad! Always a salad, But what else? Well let out some chopped ham on it, some chopped tomatoes, broccoli and don’t forget a little cheese! I’ll use cheddar today.

But I still wanted something ! You ever get that way ? Just need to change it up a bit dress it up a little!

Well I found two English cucumbers in the fridge you know those big long baby’s almost as long as a billy club man!

Well I peeled and chopped those up then chopped some cherry tomatoes, baby carrots and for good measure I added some dried cranberries!! Little garlic powder, salt, course pepper, some Ranch dressing about 1/2 cup and Wolah!! A newly created “Cucumber Salad” And man was it good and just put a big dollop right on top my salad and it was the bomb!

So just use your imagination and think healthy for you never know what you’ll come up with!

Getting a Work Out in the Winter!

Snow and more snow, ice, sleet!  Hard for a girl to get her workouts!

Well I made it to the gym today finally!  I’m over all this winter stuff!  How about you guys?   So what’s a girl to do when you can’t make it to the gym?

Hopefully you have a device to use at home (lucky I do) but no weights, friends or the cool sweaty workout environment!   I know you must be thinking she’s NUTS!  But hey whatever it takes to get this weight off right?    Ok so you don’t have the machine or weights at home now what?  Well guess we better improvise huh!  And how we going to do that you say!   Well lets start with getting in the mood first!

Work out clothes, check.  Us girls love buying and wearing them, not to mention shopping for them ( thats another story) lol.

Locked door to keep unwanted visitors out, such as husband, dogs, cats, or Whatever!  check.

Oh and how about Please don’t eat before you work out!  Man thats hard to vamp up the energy after eating, But do drink your water!  check

Ok We are in the mood now right??!!  OK so next step.

No machine No weight NO PROBLEM!    Floor exercises now don’t moan or cry we got this!!  And how about some good Ol Richard Simmons or Zumba or MY favorite  Body Groove which is free style dancing and moves to music and hey they even have one for Seniors!!  Dig that Man!!

How about free style weight!  You know those ones like you get at discount stores in different colors and sizes,  And if you don’t have them lets just fill up some milk jugs or grab some cans of food, your dog, cat, husband,  oops forgo the last one!! lol

So do what you have to do and not give up or give in!  Theirs always a way just think outside the box a bit and YOU GOT THIS!!!
